The Guardians of Bird Island
Guardians of Bird Island is a playful sculptural installation overlooking the lake at Cannon Hall Park and Gardens. The installation is the culmination of a two year project that involved workshops with local families and school children (over 450 individuals), intensive periods of research and development, character creation and story development, song writing and recording, making, carving, painting and installing.
The sculptures are constructed from reclaimed and repurposed wood, and have been designed and developed to be as environmental kind as possible. Chemicals and other ‘nasties’ have been avoided where possible during the whole process, and the installation was carried out using simple low impact methods.
