Projects

We are very fortunate to work on a number of exciting projects alongside our core work of creating public art. These projects enable us to share the joy of participating in creative activity with people in the community.

Between us we have a huge amount of project delivery and management experience and have worked with people in many different settings including nurseries, schools, colleges, universities, specialist community centres, arts centres, zoos, country parks, women’s refuges’, prisons and  hospitals.  We have particular interest in working families, bringing different generations of people together to participate in activities alongside one another - this work always produces some lovely family moments.

Parallel Rhythms

Parallel Rhythms, is a two-year teacher development project that is being delivered across six schools in Kirklees.

Each school has selected two teachers to take part in the project and each has its own distinct creative journey that is being influenced and steered by the teachers with guidance from the Artists.  The broad creative focusses for the project are Art, Music and Light, with initial explorations into the following areas: the use of Apps to develop artwork and music, writing and singing micro-songs, creation of multi-material artworks, music improvisation, creation of physical environments and live animation projection.

Through the project we are striving to share our artistic passions and knowledge, ignite imaginations and be a catalyst for creative change for teachers and children alike through sharing playful and uplifting creative experiences.

We are not at all sure where the two year journey will take us but we are extremely excited by the exploration and experiences that will take us there.

Fabric Lenny is undertaking the role of lead artist and Katrina Whale (in her capacity as Project Manager for Castle Hill School) is co-ordinating the project and providing movement and dance input.

Guardians of Bird Island

Guardians of Bird Island, a series of character-based sculptures for Cannon Hall Park and Gardens.

Guardians of Bird Island is an exciting new sculptural work for Cannon Hall Park and Gardens, arriving in May 2024.  Ideas for the artworks were developed through a series of workshops at Cannon Hall, in local schools and in the community.

Through the art and music workshops, artists have taken school children and people from the community on a creative journey of discovery and wonder, all connected to the natural world that we live in.  The hundreds of ideas were developed during the workshops and contributed towards the creation of the permanent pieces of character-based sculpture for Cannon Hall Park.

The artwork includes two large Gateway Guardian sculptures overlooking the lake, and seven smaller character pieces that form a story walk along the woodland bank of ‘Bird Island’. The sculptures are accompanied by a fun and interactive story walk where you can explore and learn about who the Guardians who take care of birds that live on ‘Bird Island’.

During the project, we have enjoyed collaborating with musician, Nicolas Lewis and are looking forward to sharing the Guardian of Bird Island music and songs that he and the children from Silkstone Primary have created.

The project has been funded by Arts Council England and Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust and has been led by artists Lenny and Whale, with the support from Barnsley Museums.
